Aloha! If flying to the Hawaiian Islands for Spring Break doesn’t quite fit into your budget, today’s VPOD brings the islands to you!
This vintage 1940s rayon dress sports a print that features Pan Am Airlines, the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Waikiki beach, volcanoes, hula dancers, and more. And while I don’t advise accessorizing this with a lei (unless you’re wearing it to a backyard luau), you can certainly pair it with a little cashmere cardigan to keep the air conditioning chill off your shoulders.
It’s a bright, fun way to ignite the island spirit of a vintage fashionista!
Available from the Land of 1000 Dresses.

Did you know that a tiger’s stripes are as individual as our fingerprints and that the roar of a tiger can be heard more than a mile away? Of course, we’re not hearing much roaring these days as tigers have become one of the earth’s fastest disappearing species.
Imagine! A species that dates back 2 million years is now tragically endangered due to man’s illegal poaching and destruction of its habitat to such an extent that only 5,000 to 7,000 tigers remain worldwide. (For comparison, this is down from about 100,000 tigers at the turn of the century.)
Perhaps that’s why I was so struck by today’s VPOD. This amazing 1940s silk Pake Muu Hawaiian dress honors these incredible beasts with a print that depicts them in their natural environment. It also features a mandarin collar with frog closures and the most incredible sleeves ever.
It’s a terrific dress to tell the tiger’s tale for a vintage fashionista!
Available at Wear It Again Sam Vintage Clothing.

Are you a label snob? Do you turn away from any vintage pieces that aren’t designer? It’s okay to say yes…I’m not judging anyone. But I would like to bring your attention to the fact that there are thousands of vintage orphans without labels waiting for a good home. These little gals can be just as beautiful and well constructed and stylish as their labeled neighbors and they could use a little love.
So why not adopt today’s VPOD? This dramatic Hawaiian maxi was home-tailored by a super-talented seamstress in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Just check out the detailing! First and foremost is that unusual fishtail skirt with its superb pattern placement. Then you’ve got the small cap sleeves with just enough elastic to pull them slightly off the shoulders. Sure gives Malia a run for the money!
It’s a heavenly Hawaiian find for a vintage fashionista!
Available at Cat’s Vintage and Designer Clothing.
