VPOD: Vintage 1950s Don Loper Suit and The Vintage Fashion Expo

vintage 1950s don loper suit

I’m like a kid at Christmas this time of year.  Not because I’m happy about the crazy early-bird retailers who are already hauling out the wrapping paper and ornaments and other holiday goodies, but because I wait with the same eager expectation for The Vintage Fashion Expo that I once waited for Santa.

Certainly the opportunity to traipse through the huge venue and ogle the goods of 85 of the finest vintage dealers in the country for TWO whole days is at least as exiting as anything Santa could put in a box and stick under my tree.

And oh, the clothes!  I could go on and on about the fantabulous vintage clothes. And the equally fantastic vintage accessories.

And the people!

Because you never know you’ll bump into at the show.

A certain Oscar-winning fashion designer came by my booth last year. And a certain celebrity interior designer who’s graced almost every major decor magazine in the last year. I’ve bumped into TV and movie actresses–literally!–as well as an assistant for a very successful LA-based fashion designer who was snatching up inspiration pieces for a future line.

If you do plan to attend the show, especially if it’s  your first time, be sure to check out my Ten Tips for Shopping the Vintage Fashion Expo. And while I won’t be selling any vintage wares there myself this year, I will be hanging out in the lobby to meet Zuburbia readers and promote this blog so be sure to stop by and say hi.

To whet your appetite, today’s VPOD features a fabulous 1950s Don Loper suit offered by an Expo dealer who also offers her goods at an online boutique. If you can’t make the show, you can find a list of all the exhibitor and any of their online links here.

Yes, without the doubt, The Vintage Fashion Expo is a must-see for any Vintage Crusader!

VPOD: Vintage Floral Dress Suit

vintage floral dress suit

Well, ladies, she’s gone and done it again!

As reported at HuffingtonPost, our FLOTUS, Michelle Obama, resurrected two wardrobe items for public appearances this week including a floral-print Moschino suit first sported in 2009  and a black-and-gray Jonathan Saunders dress from Fall 2008 that she also wore to Sargent Shriver’s funeral this past January.

What’s interesting to me is that this is somehow news.

After all, don’t all of us American women tend to wear our outfits more than once?

It seems to me that this is exactly what we should be expecting from a sensible, level-headed style icon like Michelle Obama.

In fact, how about a round of applause, for not only did she re-wear items from her wardrobe, she re-wore items from several seasons ago! Yes, this brave woman went head-to-head with the ugly Fashion Monster that promises to eat a girl alive if she’s not wearing the newest and latest and greatest and she came out of the battle looking fabulous.

If you want to follow Michelle Obama’s lead, then take a look at today’s VPOD.

This vintage floral dress suit promises multiple opportunities for prime-time appearances and Secret Service bodyguards aren’t even required.

It’s a pretty and practical find for a vintage fashionsta!

Available at Sweet Rocket 99 Vintage.
