I admit that I’m a sucker for a vintage little black…anything. Dress, skirt, blouse, tank, you name it. And while black on black can work, it’s much more fun to use black as a backdrop for a splash of color. That’s why I love to find pieces like today’s VPOD.
This warm and cozy vintage wool cape coverall by Givenchy is sure to inject new life into a collection of black separates. The red and black make a powerful statement and the beautiful hand-beaded design is subtle enough to work for day or night.
It’s one of those pieces you’ll turn to again and again, making the cost per use extremely manageable.
And that makes it a classic cape find for a vintage fashionista!
Available at Claire Inc.

With the popularity of HBO’s hit show True Blood, the hysteria over the opening of the film Twilight, and The Fashion Institute of Technology’s show Gothic: Dark Glamour, it’s no surprise that vampire-inspired looks were popping up on Spring 2009 runways. What’s more surprising is how quickly this “vampire chic” trend is sweeping the country.
If you want to join in this Transylvania moment, then today’s VPOD should get your blood flowing. This vintage black silk Edwardian cape has lace panels and beadwork and plenty of that dark, brooding gothic glamour that appeals to creatures of the night.
It’s a sexy vampire find for a vintage fashionista!
Available at Vintage Academe.

Koos Van Den Akker was born in the Netherlands in 1939, immigrated to the US in 1968 and became a naturalized citizen in 1982. His signature statement has become the delightful mixing of colors, fabrics and textures. In the hands of someone else, combining up to six different fabrics like tweed, fur, leather, wool, sequins and quilted cotton would be a disaster. But in the hands of this master, it becomes…wearable art.
Today’s VPOD features a smashing example of his genius. This abstract wool jersey cape has cobalt and rust color blocks and dramatic long scarves.
It’s a very unique find for a vintage fashionista!
Available at eBay from Seller ID koko1954.
