President Obama just concluded his Nuclear Security Summit this morning. This two-day event in Washington gathered the leaders of 47 nations to brainstorm how to keep nuclear materials out of the hands of terrorists. And I thought we’d mark this serious occasion with today’s VPOD and a salute to the peace sign.

The iconic Peace Sign was designed back in 1958 by the British artist, Gerald Holtom, and was later adopted by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Of course, since then this symbol has become recognizable around the world. But did you know that the symbol itself is composed of the semaphoric symbols for N and D, representing Nuclear Disarmament?

This symbology is displayed beautifully in today’s VPOD, a mod 1970s vintage enamel necklace that’s a great way to say “Let’s Give Peace a Chance.”

And it’s a lovely little find for a vintage fashionista!
