Before Egypt and India introduced cotton to Europe, European undergarments were made of linen. Hence, the French use of the word lingerie, derived from the French linge, for “washables” and the French lin, for linen.

Now I’m pretty sure not many of us have linen lingerie in our drawers anymore since today’s lingerie fabrics lean more toward lycra, nylon, satin and silk. But there are some beautiful vintage nightwear pieces to had from earlier decades and today’s VPOD is a fine example.

Back in 1959, Emilio Pucci decided to create a lingerie line and contracted with the Chicago-based Formfit-Rogers mills to do the production. This line, under the label Emilio Pucci for Formfit Rogers, is still one of the most coveted and collectible lingerie finds of yesteryear.

Today’s VPOD features an EPFR long nylon nightgown in a bold floral print of periwinkle, aqua and magenta.

And it guarantees sweet dreams for a vintage fashionista!
