One of my favorite childhood memories is going to pick blueberries with my parents. And I don’t mean the cultivated blueberries on a farm. No, I’m talking about wild blueberries where you had to hike off road and beat the blueberry bush with a stick to scare off any rattlesnakes. But boy was it worth it! Thinking about my mom’s homemade blueberry muffins and pies still gets my mouth watering.
No matter what your favorite berry is–strawberry, blueberry, cranberry, blackberry–you must know by now that they are a delicious low-calorie treat and are loaded with vitamins, nutrients and phytochemicals that do a body good. But berries can be good for your body in other ways too.
Just take a peek at today’s VPOD. The luscious colors of berries can add a refreshing touch to evening wear too. This vintage gown by Mary McFadden is bursting with delicious detailing at the waist, signature pleating, a plunging neckline and and interesting apron-like effect on the skirt.
It’s an elegant and berry beautiful find for a vintage fashionista.
Available at Zuburbia.

So I was catching up on some TV this weekend, watching The Rachel Zoe Report, and was happy to see this stylist extraordinaire doing a little vintage shopping. And while that lovely little store she was at, A Little Vintage, has closed its doors, Zuburbia is consigning many of their items including the lovely Mary McFadden evening gown that Rachel Zoe was fingering in the episode of her show.
And this vintage evening gown really is a showstopper with deep berry colors that are perfect for autumn events. Sure, your eye is immediately drawn to Mary McFadden’s signature pleating, but it won’t be long before you take in the fine detail at the waist and notice that the front piece has a very interesting apron-like effect.
It’s a berry beautiful find for a vintage fashionista!

This season’s runways were packed with asymmetrical, one-shoulder dresses making the oft-forgotten shoulder the body part to bare this spring and summer. And while most designers attribute their inspiration for these designs to the Greek toga, one has to wonder if a little lady by the name of Wilma Flintstone, hailing from the Stone Age town of Bedrock and sporting a simple one-shoulder mini, didn’t act as a muse as well.
Today’s VPOD is a vintage version of the current fashion trend designed by Mary McFadden in the 1980s. Fortuny-style pleats drape oh-so-elegantly in classic muted tones of peach and taupe. Just keep accessories to a minimum–earrings and bracelets will usually work better with this style than necklaces.
It’s a “yabbadabbadoo” find for a vintage fashionista!
