VPOD: Vintage Floral Dress Suit

vintage floral dress suit

Well, ladies, she’s gone and done it again!

As reported at HuffingtonPost, our FLOTUS, Michelle Obama, resurrected two wardrobe items for public appearances this week including a floral-print Moschino suit first sported in 2009  and a black-and-gray Jonathan Saunders dress from Fall 2008 that she also wore to Sargent Shriver’s funeral this past January.

What’s interesting to me is that this is somehow news.

After all, don’t all of us American women tend to wear our outfits more than once?

It seems to me that this is exactly what we should be expecting from a sensible, level-headed style icon like Michelle Obama.

In fact, how about a round of applause, for not only did she re-wear items from her wardrobe, she re-wore items from several seasons ago! Yes, this brave woman went head-to-head with the ugly Fashion Monster that promises to eat a girl alive if she’s not wearing the newest and latest and greatest and she came out of the battle looking fabulous.

If you want to follow Michelle Obama’s lead, then take a look at today’s VPOD.

This vintage floral dress suit promises multiple opportunities for prime-time appearances and Secret Service bodyguards aren’t even required.

It’s a pretty and practical find for a vintage fashionsta!

Available at Sweet Rocket 99 Vintage.

VPOD: Vintage Murray Kruger Patent Leather and Gold Handbag

Did you notice at the Fall 2011 Louis Vuitton fashion show that some models paraded down the runway in handcuffs while holding on for dear life to their structured handbags?

In an article at Vogue.com, the body language expert Lillian Glass, Ph.D. explains that this showed self-confidence, self-assurance and made a statement that they had nothing to hide.

She also explains the meaning behind the way the Celine models held their bags like “too-heavy sacks of groceries” and explains just what Prada models’ cozy holds on their bags were attempting to say.

Now whether you think there’s a deep psychological meaning to how you hold your handbag or you think this is all a bunch of baloney, there’s no doubt that any woman who carries a vintage handbag is definitely making a statement.

For instance, take today’s VPOD.

Whether you choose to hold this vintage patent leather and gold handbag behind your back a la the Louis Vuitton girls sans handcuffs or at your side in a more traditional manner, you are definitely telling the world that you prefer to listen to that still silent fashion voice inside of you instead of the loud one blasted from megaphones by the fashion industry.

That makes this bag a very expressive find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at ModBag.com.

VPOD: Vintage 1970s Tiger Print Jersey Set

vintage 1970s tiger print maxi and jacket

A hundred years ago, about 100,000 tigers roamed freely through India’s forests. This year’s latest census counts only 1,706 of the beautiful beasts.

Yikes!

This shockingly low number reflects the wild cats’ shrinking habitat due to power projects, mining and roads all encroaching on what was once wild forest. It also reflects the result of illegal poaching and highlights the world’s continued desire for tiger pelts and body parts.

But this number is also a reason to have hope because the current census counts about 300 more tigers in the wild than just four years ago. And that means that conservation efforts are having an effect.

As you know, Zuburbia donates 10% of all fur, feather and reptile sales to an animal activist charity and just yesterday I made 2010’s donation to WildAid, whose mission is to end illegal wildlife trade in our lifetimes. In other words, they want to make sure that your grandchildren and your great-grandchildren will still live in a world where tigers roam free.

Why did I choose WildAid? Because unlike many charities, this organization has a “100% to the field” guarantee that promises to channel my donation directly to the field and offers transparent accounting to back up this claim.

My hope is that by supporting the work of organizations like WildAid, tiger pelts will stay where they belong — on the backs of living, breathing tigers. And surely we can all live with that, can’t we?

After all, if we need a tiger fix, we can always scout out a fine little find like today’s VPOD.

This vintage 1970s jersey maxi gown and coat set can bring a little sense of the jungle to any party.

It’s quite the wild find for a vintage fashionista!
