VPOD: Vintage 1960s Lederer Alligator Handbag

vintage lederer alligator handbag

What’s living at the bottom of YOUR handbag?

Today’s LA Times reports that a Georgia woman recently decided to clean out her purse and discovered an old lottery ticket worth $189,302 hiding out down there!

And while I can’t promise that cleaning out your own handbag would be as exciting as this, I can promise that taking five minutes today to remove all the old receipts, gum wrappers, and other detritus will give you a small sense of accomplishment and a big boost of organization.

In fact, it just might motivate you to hit the trunk of your car, the pantry and yes, even your closet, as it kicks off a Spring Cleaning frenzy.

Of course, it’s a lot easier to keep clutter under control when you limit the size of your bag from the get-go. So take a look at today’s VPOD.

What this vintage 1960s alligator handbag by Lederer lacks in size it makes up with a huge boost of classic style.

It’s a winning find all its own for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Vintage 1930s Trifari Bat Brooch by Alfred Phillipe

vintage 1930s trifari bat brooch

During my loft-living days about a decade ago, I had a VERY close encounter with a bat  that resulted in a full round of rabies shots for both me and my daughter to the tune of $10,000. So while you might think I’d have good reason to hate these creatures, in actuality, I’m quite concerned for them.

An emerging disease in the last few years known as White-Nose Syndrome is responsible for an over 70% decline in bat populations in the Northeast and it’s affected one species, the little brown bat, to such an extent that scientists expect it to disappear from the region completely in the next 20 years.

Why should you give a hoot about the only flying mammal on the planet?

Well, for one thing, their pest control services are estimated to be worth anywhere from $3.7 to $53 billion dollars a year! But with such huge losses in the bat population from White-Nose Syndrome, scientists estimate between 660 and 1320 metric tons of insects are no longer on bats’ dinner menus and may need to killed by pesticides instead. And this, of course, could have far-reaching implications for our eco-system.

So while we should all support bat conservation efforts, we should leave the actual work to the professionals and only come close to a bat ourselves when it’s a jeweled version like today’s VPOD.

This 1930s bat pin was designed by Alfred Philllipe for Trifari as part of the Ming series, which used molded jade as a focal point.

It’s a beautiful bat find for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Vintage Zodiac Boots

vintage zodiac boots

Spring is in the air!

And as you wave goodbye to the ice and cold and snow, you might want to think about putting your dark brown and black boots into hiberation. After all, even if you’re not quite ready to bare your ten little piggies in strappy sandals, Spring’s softer looks will require different softer footwear choices.

That’s where today’s VPOD comes to the rescue!

These vintage Zodiac boots are a great transition choice for this in-between time.

The grey suede is light enough to pair with the skirts and denim that you’ll soon be donning on warmer days and under sunnier skies and they’d work equally well with your summer whites.

Check out the great stitch detailing on the sides and remember, you can wear’em over the knee or fold’em down — it’s fashionista’s choice.

They’re a boot-iful find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Fashion House Vintage.

VPOD: Vintage Pierre Cardin Logo Handbag

vintage pierre cardin logo handbag

ecko tattoo offer

Surely we’ve all become used to seeing women sport brand logos on their arms in the form of logoed handbags, shoulder bags and clutches but now Ecko wants you to take your logo love even further and brand that logo on your actual arm!

Yes, Ecko Unlimited is offering 20% off its goods FOR LIFE to anyone who gets a tattoo of the brand’s rhino or shears logos.

Now I understood Ecko’s street style may not match your own and saving $4 off a t-shirt and $10 off a pair of jeans every now and then might not make up for the pain of a needle piercing your skin thousands of times.

But would you feel differently if the offer was being made by say…oh, Chanel?  Or Louis Vuitton?

I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that there are a few girls sporting Chanel and LV tattoos right now without any incentives from those companies!

Now please understand I have nothing against tattoos. But wearing a logo makes you part of a tribe and announces to the world who and what you associate yourself with. And tattoos are pretty permanent.

Could you imagine walking around with a Christian Dior tattoo on your arm when Galliano was in the headlines for his rants a few weeks ago?

That’s why I think it might be best to keep logos off your body and on items that you can hide in your closet if a company ceases to be one that you want to promote.

Today’s VPOD is a fine example.

This Pierre Cardin logo handbag has a stylized logo print that isn’t quite as common as some other designer logos that we see way more often.

It’s a lovely logo find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Verseau Vintage.
