VPOD: Vintage 1960s Mod Gold Glitter Go-Go Boots

vintage 1960s metallic gold go go boots

Well, it’s that time of year again. The time when Oprah announces her Favorite Things. And since this is her farewell season and her last Favorite Things show ever, she decided to do two shows with two audiences and gifted some very excited women with a whole lot of goodies.

And while I’m sure I’d let out a whoop and holler for the iPad, the Le Creuset cookware, the diamond earrings or the 2012 Volkswagen beetle, I sure wouldn’t be screaming over the sequin Uggs.

I’ve never been a fan. In fact, I’m one of the few women in LA who doesn’t own at least one pair. And if I’m going to glitter up my footwear, then I’d much prefer something more along the lines of today’s VPOD.

These vintage deadstock 1960s boots have metallic gold glitter circles that give them an authentic mod vibe.

They’re quite a go-go girl find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Retro Threadz.

VPOD: Vintage Metallic Golden Girl Dress

I watched Betty White on The Tonight Show a few days ago and marveled once again at her tremendous energy and positive outlook. This former Golden Girl is currently appearing as a series regular in TV Land’s new comedy Hot in Cleveland and is a recurring guest star on NBC’s Community. She also debuted a T-shirt line this summer and works tirelessly for animal rights and animal welfare. All this at the ripe ol’ age of 88!

And since I know that putting on the right dress can be oh-so-inspiring, I couldn’t resist today’s VPOD. This vintage beauty can make anyone feel like a Golden Girl—and hopefully help you channel enough of that Golden Girl energy so you can tackle just one more item on that loooong to-do list.

A shimmering modern metallic (one of six top color trends for Fall according to Refinery29), this dress boasts a longer length and can easily switch from day to evening with a little styling magic.

What a glowing find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Vera Vague.

VPOD: Vintage 1970s Halston Metallic Leather Sandals

Just because I don’t carry vintage shoes in my online boutique doesn’t mean I’m averse to wearing them.  Oh no, no, no! On the contrary, I have plenty of vintage heels and even a few flats kicking around in my shoe drawers. (Yes, you read that right, I store my shoes in drawers.)

And I tend to mix and match. If I’m wearing a modern dress I’ll wear vintage shoes, and if I’m wearing a primarily vintage outfit, I’ll choose a more modern pair of shoes to balance things out.

But if you feel a bit shy about putting your toes where others have gone before, then check out what Quinn Asteak has to say on the subject in this vintage episode of Girls Gone Styled:

See, there’s absolutely nothing to be afraid of! And if you make friends with a great cobbler, he or she will be able to work magic on your vintage shoe finds by polishing, stretching, and tightening to perfection.

Today’s VPOD features a fantabulous pair of vintage 1970s metallic heels by Halston to get you drooling. They glimmer with style and are done in a neutral shade that’s not too glitzy for day but certainly appropriate for evening.

And that makes them a double-duty find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Catbooks1940s.

VPOD: Vintage Gold Magic – Yves Saint Laurent Blazer

Question: Who is the highest earning dead celebrity?

Go on, take a guess. Michael Jackson? Nope. Elvis Presley? Nope. Marilyn Monroe. Nope.

The answer? (Drumroll please…)

Mr. Yves Saint Laurent. This is according to Forbes list of the highest earning dead celebrities released yesterday. Since his death from brain cancer in 2008, Yves Saint Laurent has earned over $350 million, beating the #2 duo of Rodgers and Hammerstein who posthumously earned only $235 million.

Now buying vintage Yves Saint Laurent won’t help keep this fashion master at the top of this prestigious list, but it will do a whole lot to elevate the standing of your own wardrobe. Just take a look at today’s VPOD.

This matte gold blazer is from the 1990s and features YSL’s ability to turn menswear into devastatingly sexy looks for women. Hang it up in your closet and you’ll find all sorts of items magnetically drawn to it: black trousers, skinny pencil skirts, leggings, and dresses.

It’s a bit of metallic YSL magic for a vintage fashionsta!

Available from Rare Vintage on 1stdibs.
