An eclectic mix of designer and non-designer vintage clothing, accessories and jewelry, these are pieces that have caught my discerning eye for their uniqueness, their contemporary feel or their highly collectible nature.

VPOD: Vintage 1980s Yves Saint Laurent Military Blazer

As we head into Thanksgiving, many a cook will be making a list and checking it twice. While these days it is possible to run out to a grocery store on Thanksgiving morning if you discover you forgot something critical for your dinner, the experienced cook always has a well-stocked pantry with all the essentials. And what works in the pantry works in the closet too.

Just like a cook is always reaching for sugar, flour and salt, a fashionista has wardrobe staples that she reaches for time and time again. And just like a cook will often splurge on the best imported ingredients that make a critical difference in the taste of a culinary masterpiece, a fashionista should not be afraid to invest in the very best critical wardrobe pieces that serve as the centerpiece of her go-to outfits.

Today’s VPOD certainly qualifies as one such item. This vintage 1980s military-style black wool blazer by Yves Saint Laurent is trimmed in braid with huge gold buttons and a whole heap of style.

It’s a fab fashion staple for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Vintage Gold Magic – Yves Saint Laurent Blazer

Question: Who is the highest earning dead celebrity?

Go on, take a guess. Michael Jackson? Nope. Elvis Presley? Nope. Marilyn Monroe. Nope.

The answer? (Drumroll please…)

Mr. Yves Saint Laurent. This is according to Forbes list of the highest earning dead celebrities released yesterday. Since his death from brain cancer in 2008, Yves Saint Laurent has earned over $350 million, beating the #2 duo of Rodgers and Hammerstein who posthumously earned only $235 million.

Now buying vintage Yves Saint Laurent won’t help keep this fashion master at the top of this prestigious list, but it will do a whole lot to elevate the standing of your own wardrobe. Just take a look at today’s VPOD.

This matte gold blazer is from the 1990s and features YSL’s ability to turn menswear into devastatingly sexy looks for women. Hang it up in your closet and you’ll find all sorts of items magnetically drawn to it: black trousers, skinny pencil skirts, leggings, and dresses.

It’s a bit of metallic YSL magic for a vintage fashionsta!

VPOD: Vintage 1990s Moschino Ms. Matador Jacket

In Latin America and Europe, 250,000 bulls are maimed, tortured and killed for entertainment every year. It’s interesting to me that while no self-respecting American would watch their neighbor impose such cruelty on any animal in the yard next door, many Americans eagerly become spectators of the brutal sport of bullfighting when they travel abroad. We say, Just Say No! In fact, you can pledge not to attend a bullfight when you travel at the League Against Cruel Sports.

Of course, it is quite all right to say yes to today’s VPOD. This 1990s matador-inspired jacket by Moschino in colorful twill brocade has felt trim, tassels and epaulets that pack it with style.

It’s a fab little find for a vintage fashionista!
