VPOD: Foxy Lady – Vintage 1980s Lilli Rubin Velvet Evening Gown with Fur Trim

The ’80s are coming! The’80s are coming! Well, actually, they’ve already arrived for their second fashion go-round. And while those of you young enough to have missed the first era of leggings, shoulder pads and general excess seem to be embracing the revival, there’s a whole group of older fashionistas who are saying “not again!”

But we can’t really characterize any fashion era as good or bad. Each era has its triumphant moments and also has those items that are best left unresurrected. And really, if you find a great 1980s suit and take out the shoulder pads, there are no fashion police going to arrest you.

Of course, some over-the-top 1980s pieces can be fashionably over-the-top, like today’s VPOD. This 1980s evening gown by Lilli Rubin has it all: lace, velvet, fox fur and sequins. Yet, somehow that mix works itself out beautifully.

It’s a foxy find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Woodland Farms Antiques.

VPOD: Vintage 1960s Paisley Print Velvet Handbag

Brace yourselves, ladies, for fashion’s velvet revolution. The last time this much velvet strutted down runways was back in the 1990s. But what was once reserved for evening wear and the occasion blazer or coat, is being worked by today’s designers into casual day dresses, harem pants, and yes, even leggings.

If you’re not quite ready to fully embrace this trend, however, you can always dip your toe into the water with a colorful velvet accessory like today’s VPOD.

This 1960s velvet handbag with a bright paisley print resembles a much higher-priced brand (hint: it rhymes with hoochie and isn’t Gucci). It’s listed as very good condition with surface stains and dirt. Heck, isn’t that what most of our purses look like after a few uses? And this little baby is only $70!

That makes it a velvet bargain for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Enokiworld.
