VPOD: Vintage 1930s Knit Ruffled Cape

It’s Tax Day and that means that some people are panicked and in a mad rush to get their tax returns stamped by the Post Office before it closes. The good news for them is that many Post Office branches will be open late to accommodate the folks who wait to file until the last possible minute. Meanwhile, millions of other Americans are basking in the knowledge that their returns were signed, sealed and delivered weeks ago.

And just as we break down into the early-birds and the last-minute maniacs when it comes to our taxes, I find that we break down into those same two groups when it comes to fashion.

For example, consider today’s VPOD, a fantastic vintage 1930s ruffled knit cape. The fashion early-bird will take one look and, even though it’s the middle of April, will snatch it now for her fall 2010 wardrobe. After all, capes, capelets and cloaks were a definite fall fashion trend and this is a one-of-a-kind beauty!

The last-minute fashionista, on the other hand, will wait until the weather turns chilly before turning her thoughts to outerwear and will likely pay a premium price for delaying her purchase until the peak of demand.

The early-bird may get the worm but this is a far more delicious find for an early-bird vintage fashionista!

Available at Closet Case Vintage.

P.S. So which one are you–an Early Bird or a Last Minute Maniac?

VPOD: Vintage 1970s Magazine Clutches (and Sex and the City 2)

The Sex and the City 2 movie trailer was recently released (you can watch it here) and this time it looks like the girls are up for a major adventure in Abu Dhabi. Plus you can expect to see Miley Cyrus, Penelope Cruz and Liza Minelli in cameos and more fabulous costuming from Patricia Field. She’s the outrageously talented woman behind all the trends that came out of the TV series, like today’s VPOD.

These vintage 1970s clutches are similar to the one carried by Carrie in Episode 44 of the famed series and the bags have remained so popular that Patricia Field created her own version with her own signature logo to carry to the first Sex and the City movie premiere.

The good news is that authentic vintage versions like these are relatively easy to find if you keep your eyes open.

And they continue to be fab, fun accessories for vintage fashionistas!

Available at Uesa Goods Vintage.

VPOD: Sheer Genius Vintage 1980s Blouse

Vintage 1980s Sheer Blouse

All those sheer outfits strutting down the spring runways–and there were lots of them!–looked amazing, sure. But they can be a tricky look to pull off if you’re a modern woman who spends her day strutting into offices, schools, and grocery stores.

It is possible, however, to embrace these light, flowing, sexy fabrics at any age and in any part of the country. Today’s VPOD, for example, feature a fabulous vintage blouse from the 1980s that has plenty of sex appeal when styled with a strapless bra. But it’s easy to tame this look and make it behave more appropriately by simply pairing it with a tank, camisole or tube top instead. Or throw it on over a strapless dress. Or that black jumpsuit with spaghetti straps. Or simply use it as a cover-up at the beach.

However you choose to style it, it’s a piece of sheer genius for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Nasty Gal.
