VPOD: Vintage 1980s Romeo Gigli Sweater Dress



We’ve all heard the question about which came first, the chicken or the egg, but what about this fashion conundrum: Do you buy your shoes to match a dress or do you buy a dress to match your shoes?

I mean, take today’s VPOD, for instance. This fabulous little 1980s sweater dress by Romeo Gigli is crying out for some tights and ankle boots. And, well, if you’re already splurging on a pair of this season’s trendy boots, you want to be sure you have plenty to wear them with. After all, didn’t you convince yourself they were affordable by computing their cost-per-wear?

And while those boots might pinch or rub mercilessly, this frock is guaranteed to be comfortable. Few flatter the body in knit better than Romeo Gigli, who has a special knack for designing knits that cling perfectly without ever being too restrictive or tight.

So it’s a perfect Romeo find for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Vintage 1980s Romeo Gigli Jacket



Let’s play a little word association game, okay? I say: Romeo. You say: ____________.

While most folks would fill in the blank with Shakespeare or maybe Juliet, true vintage fashionistas would shout out: Gigli!

Romeo Gigli was born in Italy and is considered by some to be one of the most influential designers of the late 1980s. Take a look at today’s VPOD and you’ll see why.

This raw silk jacket with oversized collar has a soft sculptural quality that is a perfect example of Gigli’s subtle, sophisticated designs. I love that you could work this piece for day or evening and if you’re still not in love, keep in mind that jade green is one of the hottest shades for Fall 2009.

What a lovely treat from Romeo for a vintage fashionista!
