VPOD: Vintage Fringed Leather Gloves

vintage French fringed leather gloves

It used to be that when women got dressed to go out, it involved selecting not just a dress, shoes, handbag and jewelry but entailed the selection of a hat, scarf, gloves, stockings and appropriate undergarments as well.

Whew! Sounds like a lot of work, doesn’t it? And all this just to head off to the market, the doctor’s office or lunch with the girls.

As for me, I’m fine with the modern abandonment of girdles, stockings and hats but I would be quite happy to see more gloves. Not the kind you wear to clean your windshield or make snowballs but the fashionable kind that are a fantastic addition to a suit and that add a stylish pop of color with a blazer.

Of course, out here in LA I may only take my gloves out to play a few times a year but what fun when I do! And since I’m always on the lookout for another unique pair, I couldn’t resist today’s VPOD. These vintage kidskin gloves from France are completely charming with their stitching and fringe and surprisingly, they’re even washable.

That makes them an irresistible find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Coronet Weeds Vintage.

VPOD: Vintage Chanel Kidskin Gloves

vintage chanel kid gloves

Have you ever been treated with kid gloves? Or heard someone suggest that it was time to take the kid gloves off?

These idiomatic expressions trace back to the early 1800s. Back then, women of the noble and upper classes often wore kidskin gloves to protect their hands. But since kidskin gloves are made from the hide of young goats, they are extremely soft and therefore not very practical for use in serious manual labor. That’s why treating someone or something with kid gloves came to be associated with delicate treatment. And why taking the kid gloves off means it’s time to get down to business.

Ready to put some kid gloves on? Then take a look at today’s VPOD.  These vintage kidskin gloves by Chanel are tres chic and guaranteed to make you feel very ladylike as you slip them over your fingers.

They’re a delightful find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Portero.
