VPOD: Vintage YSL Ethnic Blouse

vintage ysl ethnic blouse

Well it’s June and I can already hear the wedding bells ringing and the cash register ka-chinging!

June is still the most popular month for tying the knot and tying the knot doesn’t come cheap.

According to TheKnot.com, the average 150-person wedding costs a whopping $25,000 with the bride’s attire accounting for about 8-10% of that amount.

Of course, not every bride will wearing white. Not every bride will be wearing vintage. Not every bride will even wear a gown for that matter.

Sure, the ol’ white wedding dress is still the traditional way to go although that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few non-traditional ladies choosing to express themselves a bit more authentically.

But I’m not holding my breath to see anyone walk down the aisle in the little number Yves Saint Laurent created in the 1970s proclaiming “Love Me Forever or Never.”

And check out this quote from the design genius:

“The most beautiful clothes that can dress a woman are the arms of the man she loves. For those who haven’t had the fortune of finding this happiness, I am there.”

So if you’re not exchanging “I do’s” this June, simply snag today’s VPOD instead.

This vintage YSL ethnic top has a peplum waist and will live happily ever after with your favorite pair of jeans.

It’s a fab little find for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Vintage Snake Wool Dress

Ophidiophobia is the fear of snakes and it’s one of the ten most common fears among humans. But, according to the Journal of Genetic Psychology, Volume 28:

“…probably not one person in ten in America has ever seen a poisonous snake in its natural habitat and snake bites do not cause one-thousandth of one percent of our death rate.”

In other words, there are waaaaay more dangerous things that we should all be afraid of.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Tell that to my brain, but just show me a picture of a snake and immediately my heart will start racing and my legs will be itching to take off faster than they’ve ever run before.

That’s because research at several top universities confirms that we have an evolutionary bias to be afraid of of things that have posed a threat to humans throughout history.

And one way to overcome this fear can be with what is called Systematic Desensitization.

By first imagining the least fearful situation you can think of and working your way up to the most fearful situation you can think of, you can eventually manage your fear and anxiety to a point where you will actually be able to confront your fear in real life head-on.

And I find this to be the perfect excuse to surround myself with desensitizing vintage snake accessories and clothing like today’s VPOD.

While there’s no way I’d drape a real live hissing squirming snake around my shoulders, wearing this vintage wool snake dress would be No Problemo.

It’s a fabulous find for a snake-fearing vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Vintage Judith Leiber Belt

vintage judith leiber belt

Judith Leiber, who is now 90-years-young, is perhaps most well-known for her jeweled minaudieres. But no matter how famous you may be in some circles, you can be just as unknown in others.

For instance, a man once wrote to me for some advice because he had inherited his mother’s Judith Leiber handbag collection and didn’t know what to do with it. A local dealer he had contacted told him that no one was interested in those old things anymore and made him a lowball offer. But something told him to hold off and get a second opinion (and this is never a bad idea, ladies, when you’re selling a collection!)

So he soon discovered that, indeed, women around the world are still clamoring for this design goddess’s pieces which are in permanent collections at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Metropolitan Museum in NYC and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Now, considering that Judith Leiber recently admitted to buying back her own vintage handbags on eBay for The Leiber Museum in the Hamptons, you may want to sit out of the frenzied bidding wars for her vintage handbags and grab yourself one of her gorgeous belts instead.

Today’s VPOD is a real beauty done up in black leather with an art deco inspired buckle.

It’s an extraordinary accessory for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Skin + Wood.
