A September 2010 Los Angeles magazine poll reports that 19% of shoppers admitted to buying an item because a celebrity wore it. More interesting is that the same poll showed that 24% of sales clerks have LIED about telling a customer that a celebrity bought an item just to sell it!

Don’t get caught in this trap.

Learn what you like to wear. Discover what looks good on you. Listen to that tiny voice inside that will always guide you toward your best wardrobe choices.

Dressing authentically is what makes you cool, hip, chic and sophisticated. Dressing like a celebrity just because you think they’re cool…well, that’s plain ol’ imitation.

And consider this: Many, many celebrities don’t even dress themselves! They rely on stylists to tell them what to wear where and stylists are constantly being wooed and influenced by the fashion industry.

Of course, there are times when dressing like a celebrity makes sense.

If you’re building a vintage clothing collection, clothes worn by celebrities, especially at famous events like the Oscars, can be valuable investments.
