VPOD: Vintage 1960s Faux Fur Convertible Coat

Talk about balanced reporting! Today’s New York Times featured two fashion articles that talk about fur: “Fashion Feels Furs Warm Embrace” reported that almost 2/3 of designers showing in New York used real fur in their collections (shame! shame!) while “Can Sackcloth Have Fur Trim” detailed Karl Lagerfeld’s use of what he calls “fantasy furs” which are (surprise! surprise!) actually fake!

Fur is a billion dollar industry–that’s billion with a “b”–which means that there are plenty of “lobbyists” who woo designers to use fur in their collections. But just like the dieter who exercises self-control and refuses dessert, each fashionista has the power to just say no. So if you must wear fur, then please, please, choose a faux version or even better yet, choose a vintage faux fur like today’s VPOD.

This ingenious gem from the 1960s is really two coats in one with a bottom that zips off so that the top of the coat can be worn as a cropped jacket. Your pocketbook will love the $60 price tag and your conscience will love that it didn’t harm one hair on an animal’s head.

It’s a lovely faux fur choice for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Working Chanel

Until you get up close and personal with the CC logo buttons on today’s VPOD, you might be unaware that yes, it is a Chanel. And isn’t this 1980s Karl Lagerfeld design just perfect for the office?

While the buttoned-up look in brown raw silk with crisp white details looks ultra-professional, it’s the rear view–with a sort of peplum effect–that hints at the garment’s very stylish roots.

It’s a great find for an office-bound vintage fashionista!
