Kudos to the 2011 SAG awards which saved THREE TONS of paper this year by encouraging its members to cast their votes online. But that’s just the tip of the green iceberg.

This zero-waste event wined and dined its guests with locally sourced food and used eco-friendly plates, cups and utensils that were recycled at the night’s end. In addition, Hollywood’s talent were offered hybrid cars for transportation and the event was even prepared for an emergency power interruption with a backup biodeisel generator.

Plus it was so nice to see a few celebrities embracing the SAG Awards’ green spirit and donning vintage evening wear for their walk down the Red Carpet.

Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) looked totally glam in her elegant vintage Thierry Mugler gown and Dianna Agron (Glee) glowed in her vintage Chanel cocktail dress.

And if any invitees to the upcoming Oscars are still tearing out their hair trying to decide what to wear, I offer today’s VPOD. This strapless vintage Ralph Lauren evening gown is ready and waiting to strut its stuff.

It’s an eco-friendly award night find for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Vintage Chanel Blazer with Matching Scarf

vintage chanel 2001 blazer with scarf

I hope you’ll all give me a bit of leeway today because my VPOD happens to be from Chanel’s Autumn 2001 collection. I know, I know, for many of you that might mean it’s not quite officially vintage just yet.

But you’d be a fool to let a little thing like a few months — or even years — stand between you and this beauty!

Besides its amazing golden wheat color, just check out the matching scarf which has an interesting attached neck tie. It makes me want to go experiment with putting bows on long-lost scarfs in my own closet to borrow the look!

With it’s CC wooden buttons and its vintage price tag, this little lovely is a pure delight for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Rice and Beans Vintage. | Discovered at TheFind.com.

VPOD: Vintage 1970s DVF Wrap Dress

So I was signing up for an online site the other day and the form asked for my age. I selected it from the drop-down box and realized a few minutes later that..hold on…I was actually two years older than I thought I was.

No I’m not getting senile!

It’s just that I pretty much stopped counting or celebrating birthdays a few years ago and so I really don’t pay attention to my age. I think what’s far more important to focus on in life is how you feel.

One very sexy 50-something who seems to agree is Diane von Furstenberg. In an interview with Barbara Hannah Grufferman for her new book, The Best of Everything After 50, she presents herself as a poster child for women over 50 who want to continue to exude confidence and style. But she’s an inspiration for women of all ages when you consider how many times she’s picked herself up, dusted herself off and reinvented herself over the years.

As for fashion, she had only one fashion rule to offer and it applies equally well whether you’re a 20-something or something-other-than-a-20-something:

Be comfortable.

The article reports that according to DVF  “the number-one thing that makes a woman feel strong, attractive, and sexy is being confident, and to feel confident you have to wear clothes that feel good and make you look better.”

Of course, no one makes clothes that do that better than DVF herself.

Her ultra-comfy jersey wrap dress put her on the fashion map when she was just 28 years old and it’s still a fashion favorite.

Today’s VPOD is particularly special since this vintage 1970s version of DVF’s iconic wrap dress just happens to have also been worn by Cybill Shepherd in the iconic film, Taxi Driver.

That makes this VPOD an especially fabulous find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Dorothea’s Closet.

VPOD: Vintage 1960s Velvet Pucci Skirt

vintage 1960s velvet Pucci skirt

It’s the time of year when we all start making our lists and checking them twice, right?

Grocery lists for our menu on Turkey Day.

Shoppings lists for holiday gifts that we hope to pick up at sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Address lists for all the ladies and gents we plan to send out holiday cards to in the next few weeks.

That leaves little time for thinking about what to wear so it’s nice to have some no-brainer choices lined up ahead of time. In a season where lots can go wrong — from burnt turkeys to delayed shipments, from drips and spills to another unexpected guest who didn’t RSVP — you can at least count on looking fabulous in today’s VPOD.

This vintage 1960s velvet Pucci skirt features a dark color palette just perfect for the season. Go ahead and play with all sorts of combinations to dress it up or down based on your next upcoming social event.

It’s a versatile velvet find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Palm Beach Vintage.

Huffington Post contributing style editor, Lesley M. M. Blume, co-hosted a party with Parsons School of Design this week to celebrate the new release of her book, Let’s Bring Back, and to honor some of the fabulous fashion designers it showcases.

lets bring back bookDesigners featured at the event included Charles James, Adrian, Giorgio Sant’Angelo, Claire McCardell, Sophie Gimbel and the designer of today’s VPOD, Norman Norell.

Norell’s claim to fame was his ability to translate couture into American ready-to-wear, with eagle eye inspections of each garment and exacting demands in their creation. His pieces rivaled those being made in Paris and attracted a host of devoted clients.

Today’s VPOD showcases one of his swoon-worthy finds, a glamorous tank-style cocktail dress that glimmers with thousands of glass beads.

It’s a lovely little “let’s bring back” find for a vintage fashionista!
