VPOD: A Celebration of Grace

“True to her name, Grace Kelly was the essence of feminine style and elegance. Her beauty and poise largely shaped the fashions of her time and continue to influence designers today.” – Oscar de la Renta

This week, through October 26, couture creations inspired by the beautiful Princess Grace of Monaco are being displayed in the windows of Saks Fifth Avenue in New York and will be auctioned tonight at the Casino Couture event to benefit the Princess Grace Foundation-US.

This is just one of many events being coordinated by the Consulate General of Monaco, the Monaco Government Tourist Office in New York, the Princely Palace of Monaco and Sotheby’s to commemorate the life of the Princess on the twenty-fifth anniversary of her death.

A special exhibit at Sotheby’s is free and open to the public. It features many items never before seen outside the Principality of Monaco including dresses and jewelry, photography, personal letters and family videos that span the life of this incredible woman as a wife and mother, Hollywood actress, Princess, philanthropist and yes, style icon.

Visit here to read about her life and legacy.

Then visit here to browse the couture creations of the specially selected American designers who were each asked to interpret a memorable gown in their own style and choice of fabric and color. Here I’ve featured Ralph Lauren’s interpretation of the ice blue dress worn inTo Catch a Thief. His modern design features silk georgette with a satin pleated bodice, sweetheart neckline, double wrap sash and scalloped edging.

Other designers include Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Ralph Rucci, Zac Posen, and Vera Wang and their designs, along with the vintage pieces that inspired them, are must-see’s for vintage fashionistas!

Our paper did a little peice about this Sotheby’s exhibit as well. I cut it out to add to my last post where I made reference to GK. What a way to spend a fall day!
