VPOD: Vintage 1940s Secretary Dress

vintage 1940s day dress

Vintage shopping, whether it’s done online or in brick-and-mortar stores, requires a H-U-G-E amount of attention. In many cases, sizes aren’t clearly evident. There is always the possibility of some sort of flaw in an item. And often, there are very limited return policies.

Which means you should proceed with caution.

Check garments over once, twice, even three times if you are able to examine the garment in person.  And always, always, always read an online store’s exchange policy every time you purchase just in case the policy has changed since the last time you were a customer.

Also when shopping online, don’t be fooled by the pictures—make sure you read the descriptions carefully. Today’s VPOD is a fine example.

A common complaint I hear among vintage fashionistas is that the clothes are just too small to fit modern bodies. So just a quick glance at this fab 1940s tweed-print secretary dress might cause a gal who isn’t a size 2 or 4 to scroll right on by. But if you take the time to read the description, you’ll learn that this dress was made for a woman with a 40 inch bust and a 34 inch waist!

It’s proof you can find great vintage pieces in any size with a little time and attention.

And that’s very good news for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Unique Vintage.

P.S. – Please note that this site contains mostly vintage reproductions with a smattering of authentic vintage items. If you are seeking authentic vintage items, be sure to read descriptions carefully and make sure they say “authentic vintage.”
