VPOD: Vintage 1970s Hanae Mori Silk Floral Dress

vintage hanae mori silk floral dress

Designer Hanae Mori intentionally expresses her Japanese heritage throughout her work. As she says:

I am Japanese, in Japan there is this beauty by itself which has been nurtured by tradition—fashion is an international language. What I have been trying to do is to express the wonderful beauty of Japan using international language.”

Her designs do this beautifully with many of them sporting luxurious printed textiles that were produced by her husband. Although perhaps most well-known for her butterfly motifs, Hanae Mori produced pieces with other vibrant prints as well, like today’s VPOD.

This stunning silk dress dates from the late 1970s but its eye-catching print in bold red, black and nude can still turn heads. It’s conservative and yet oh-so-sophisticated and feminine.

Which makes it a lovely find for a vintage fashionista!

Available from Freudian Slips Vintage.
