VPOD: Vintage 1980s Yohji Yamamoto Sarong Skirt with Suspender Strap

I’m looking forward to the return of The United States of Tara on Showtime beginning March 22. This series stars Toni Collette as a suburban wife and mother who suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder, a fancy way of saying she has multiple personalities. One of those personalities is Alice, who is a prim and proper housewife from the 1950s. And whenever Alice makes an appearance, you can be sure she’ll be decked out in authentic 50s style complete with dress, gloves, pocketbook and pumps which is a prime time treat for a vintage fashionista.

But not every vintage lovin’ gal clamors for the traditional and somewhat conservative styles of this era. And fortunately, there are plenty of other decades to choose from!

For instance, this vintage 1980s skirt by Yohji Yamamoto has the hip, urban style that a city dweller would love. It’s a bit avant-garde with its one suspender strap and its sarong panel but it’s certainly not over-the-top. Oh, and you can tell your friends it’s the exact same skirt worn by Aimee Mann to the 1985 MTV Awards.

What a fresh and modern 25-year-old find for a vintage fashionista!

    Mary,
What an amazing Yohji Yamamoto skirt! I’m loving the military green color – which of course was all over the Spring runways!
