VPOD: Chasing Chanel

If anyone out there follows the discussion boards on eBay, you’ll remember a recent brouhaha about one seller who was caught red-handed pulling the ol’ switcheroo on labels. And it’s a bit disconcerting to pay for a Valentino or Halston when you’re actually buying an off-the-rack frock with a resewn label! Now, I’m not suggesting that eBay is an evil place–the vast majority of its vintage clothing dealers are honest, trustworthy, and knowledgeable–but I am reminding everyone to buy smart, read feedback, monitor the message boards, and report any wrongdoings.

Of course, if you’re in the market for a vintage Chanel handbag that you know has been authenticated and is in pristine condition, then you can also hop on over to Portero.com. Now through June 30th, you can bid on over 200 vintage Chanel bags all sourced from private collections.

Today’s VPOD features one of my favorites. This little lady is made of silver quilted satin with a simple wooden handle. And there’s something about the juxtaposition of that luxurious fabric with that organic material that I just love.

It’s a genuine find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Portero.com.

as a vintage seller (ha ha) on ebay, It is very important for us to monitor fraud in our spare time! ebay doesn’t….and that’s a very good reason to buy from trusted sources. Thanks for blogging about this controversy. We want buyers to feel confident and be Vintage!
