VPOD: Vintage 1960s Mike Benet Mad Men Evening Gown

Whoops, they did it again! Mad Men took honors for Best Dramatic Television Series for the third year in a row at this year’s Golden Globes. And while I tune in for the banter and confrontations and day-to-day happenings at Sterling Cooper, as a vintage fashionista, it’s an extra-special treat to view costume designer Jane Bryant’s hard work each week.

If you’re not yet a fan of the series, you have plenty of time to catch up on Seasons 1 and 2 before AMC’s encore presentation of Season 3 begins March 21. Then you’ll be all caught up and ready to enjoy the highly-anticipated premiere of Season 4.

But be forewarned: after watching all the glamorous female characters, you may, like many American women, decide to ditch your jeans and glam it up a bit yourself. It seems Jane Bryant has single-handedly created an increased demand for figure-hugging dresses, glamorous peignoirs, and spaghetti straps.

If that’s the case, turn towards today’s VPOD. This glitzy 1960s gown by Mike Benet in emerald green has a beautiful beaded bodice and makes a great accessory for a highball or a dry martini.

It’s a fabulous Mad Men find for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Mad Men Magic – Vintage 1950s Satin Print Dress

Once upon a time, women sat around on Sunday nights sipping cocktails and tuning in to their favorite fashion friends from Sex and the City. But whether you were more of a Samantha or a Carrie type doesn’t matter anymore because there’s a whole new gang of girls in town.

The new fashionistas to watch are the girls of the hit series Mad Men. The buxon Joan Holloway, the poised Betty Draper, and the spunky Peggy Olsen don’t just entertain us but allow us to feast our eyes on the fabulous designs of yesteryear coordinated by the show’s talented costume designer, Janie Bryant.

Today’s VPOD features a vintage satin print dress that you can just picture walking down the halls of Sterling Cooper. And while the TV show would pair it with period shoes and a handbag to match, it’s a perfectly viable choice for today’s vintage fashionista who isn’t afraid to glam it up 2009-style with tights, a belted cardigan and ankle boots.

Yes, it’s a magical Mad Men-inspired find for a vintage fashionista!
