VPOD: Seeing Spots

The Endangered Species Act of 1973 expressly forbids the trade of endangered species and the list includes many animals whose fur was once used in the fashion industry. Don’t mess with this one, ladies! Penalties include fines up to $100k and/or jail time and vintage buyers and sellers must proceed with caution to ensure they are acting within the law. Undercover US Fish & Wildlife officers have been known to lurk on eBay to catch offenders and I know of at least one vintage seller who notifies her local authorities whenever she sees an illegal fur for sale online.

So what’s a gal to do? Take a look at today’s VPOD. This 1970s vintage jacket by Celine is leopard-printed pony skin–perfectly legal. And with its slit pockets, leather trim and trademark horse-and-buggy lining, it’s perfectly chic and charming as well.

What a lawful find for a vintage fashionista!
