Think brides always wore white to their weddings? Think again!

The woman who sparked this centuries long trend was Queen Elizabeth Victoria. When she married Prince Albert in 1840 she shocked everyone by wearing white, and it didn’t take long before throngs of brides in Europe and America followed suit.

But deciding to wear a color other than white at your wedding doesn’t mean you’ll jinx your marriage. On the contrary, as more and more brides embrace green eco-friendly weddings, they are turning to vintage gowns and dresses of all colors that not only fit their themes but still manage to take their grooms’ breath away.

Today’s VPOD is a fine example. This vintage 1950s gown by Ceil Chapman is just perfect for a summer wedding with its airy, loopy woven cord. Plus it’s cream color melds so much better than stark white if you’re holding your ceremony in a natural setting like a garden or glen.

It’s a truly stunning find for a soon-to-be-wed vintage fashionista!

Available at Hemlock Vintage.
