Zuburbia VPOW: Vintage 1960s Beaded Cocktail Dress

Vintage 1960s Malcolm Charles Candy Cane Coat

Are you the type who hates to scroll through the zillions of eBay vintage clothing listings and relies instead on your well-crafted search term list? Or are you the type that immediately clicks on the “Designer” section of an online vintage clothing site? If so, you could be missing out on some fabulous pieces from the Land of the Lost Labels.

There are lots of reasons a vintage clothing item could be missing a label. In some cases, the labels were physically removed by owners to avoid customs duties when crossing international borders. In others, labels were never there to begin with because pieces were hand-made by talented seamstresses and not done under a brand name. Or perhaps a label is simply missing due to age and wear. I have certainly found many an item that has had its label literally hanging by a thread.

So it pays to widen your search beyond designer items if you want to find some undiscovered gems. Today’s VPOD is a fine example. This stunning 1960s cocktail dress has impeccable tailoring and workmanship. The beaded bodice perfectly offsets the silk shantung skirt with deep slash pockets. The only thing missing is a designer label and I promise you won’t miss it.

It’s a breathtaking anonymous find for a vintage fashionista.

Available at Zuburbia.com.
