VPOD: Vintage 1930s Crochet Chic

Everyone loves a good mystery and how and where crochet originated is a big one. The word itself derives from croche and krokr, the Middle French and Norse words for hook. But whether the craft developed from Chinese needlework, primitive tribes in South America, nuns in Italy or craftsman in Arabia is still up for debate.

What is certain, however, is fashion’s ongoing crush on crochet. Take today’s VPOD for instance. This little number is from the late 1930s or early 1940s and I can only hope I look this good when I’m in my 70s!

It’s just a simple wrap cardigan style but that double crochet filet pattern packs some punch. It’s perfect to toss on as a swimsuit coverup or to cover bare shoulders on a chilly summer evening.

It’s a chic crochet find for a vintage fashionista!
