VPOD: Vintage 1990s Master Miyake Blouse

Vintage fashionistas don’t spend all their time looking at the past. No, the wise collector also keeps one eye on the future. Who will be the collectible label of tomorrow? Which iconic piece should you snag today with the hopes that you’ll see appreciation in a decade or two?

Nicole Nicas Rovner, from Skinner Auctioneers & Appraisers in Boston, and Abigail K. Rutherford, Director of Vintage Couture and Accessories of Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, Chicago, share their advice on which designers vintage clothing collectors should be looking for in an article for VintageFashionNews.
I’m sure you can imagine some of the powerhouse names on their list. But I believe the number one rule of collecting is to purchase what you love. What resonates with you. What makes you gasp and squeal with delight. Not what someone else says you should be buying.

For instance, I love the work of some of the Japanese designers working today so today’s VPOD features an early 1990s pleated silk blouse by Issey Miyake with a huge cowl collar. Maybe his work will be highly sought after by future vintage clothing collectors. Maybe not.

But either way, this is a fantabulous piece for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Antique Dress.
