We all know that once we buy a new car and drive it off the lot, it loses value. The same thing happens when you buy new clothes or handbags at the mall and clip off their tags. They are now officially “used” and their value has plummeted.

This is not necessarily so with vintage items however. The LA Times reported over the weekend that proper purchases of vintage costume jewelry can increase in value by 10-15% a year. And Jeanne Suica, an experienced vintage clothing dealer, recently talked on her blog about buying a vintage Gaultier dress for $40 and flipping it at auction a month later for $1,000.
