VPOD: Vintage 1970s Unsaintly St. John Knit Dress

I’m reading Richard Branson’s book Business Stripped Bare: Adventures of a Global Entrepreneur. His Virgin Group is one of the most recognized lifestyle brands in the world so he has a little something to say about branding (plus I’m a die-hard Virgin America fan!)

Point is, I have branding on my mind and brands stand for something. So I was pleasantly surprised when I spied today’s darling VPOD and saw that it had a St. John label. I’ve never associated St. John with youthful clothing and with Angelina Jolie as the face of the conglomerate, I’m sure not many other people do either. St. John to me has always meant knit, conservative, and classy.

But this 1970s mini dress with its knit bodice and rows of ruffles screams youthful, fresh and flirty. Plus it’s versatile enough to dress down for day or dress up for night–which makes it a great packer for the global traveler.

It’s an unsaintly but sophisticated St. John for a vintage fashionista!

Available on eBay from optarevintage.
