VPOD: School Daze

I just returned from USC’s campus and despite what the fashion magazines may be showing for fall, flip flops and tank tops are definitely the norm with today’s college students (as is texting while biking and skateboarding).

Getting jostled by this sea of youthful humanity, it’s easy to understand why so many work environments have become so incredibly casual. And yet, at least for me, I find I do my best work when I’m dressed for success. That doesn’t necessarily mean something ultra-conservative but it does mean polished and professional. Somehow just slipping off the flip-flops and slipping into a pair of pumps changes the way a person thinks and behaves. And slipping on today’s VPOD would give you the confidence to take on anything the business world might throw your way.

This 1970s number is by Roberta di Camerino (yes, that Roberta di Camerino of handbag fame). This fine knit wool dress has been silk-screened in red, blue and green to give the appearance of a vest and skirt over a blouse–but it’s just one great dress.

And it’s a surefire winner for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Shrimpton Couture.
