VPOD: Batik Babe

This fashion season is shaping up to be a season of extremes. Bright colors and neutrals are hot; skinny pants and wide leg trousers are in; mini clutches or huge, oversize bags look right; and you can wear a mini OR a maxi dress. Yes, the maxi is back!

And today’s VPOD is an fine example of why that makes me so happy! This 1970s maxi halter dress is batik, an Indonesian word that refers to a wax-resist dyeing technique. By melting wax and applying it to cloth before dipping the cloth in dye, and repeating that process with different colors, you end up with this type of beautiful printed fabric.

It’s a marvelous maxi for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Just Say When.
