VPOD HI/LO: Code Red for Fall

Two different looks. Two very different price tags.

Can you guess which item is 4x more expensive? (Almost $600 vs $150?)

Fashion’s calling a Code Red this fall and I just want to remind everyone that you can incorporate this blazing trend—or any trend for that matter—with vintage pieces at all different price points.(Of course, this assumes you want to follow a trend in the first place.)

One of these lovely pieces bears the label of a famous fashion designer. The other has a label that may be familiar to die-hard vintage fashionistas but certainly isn’t a household name.

Yet they both pack a powerful style punch in very different ways.

Julien’s Auctions Presents The Collection of Bette Midler

Oh, the Divine Miss M!

What a performer. What a career.

30 million records sold worldwide. An Oscar nomination for her performance in The Rose. Forty years of performing on Broadway, television and concert stages. A 2011 Emmy nomination.

And she’s done it all with style.

And this November, Julien’s Auctions will auction over 300 items from her life and career including her very first audition dress, dresses worn on her album covers, gorgeous Bob Mackie creations and pieces designed by Pucci and Valentino.

The fun begins on Saturday, November 12th at 10am but you can sneak a peek now at the gorgeous online auction catalog and a picture gallery from the free public exhibition at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills that opens this Monday, October 31.

Don’t be shy. Anyone can bid—whether live, online, via telephone or absentee bid form.

And remember, a portion of the proceeds from this sale will benefit the non-profit organization Bette founded in 1955 , the“New York Restoration Project” (NYRP).

LOVIN’ IT: Reduce Reuse RePurpose Recycle Sign

I’m lovin’ this fab little handmade sign of recycled and reclaimed materials proclaiming a rallying cry for the world:

REDUCE, RE-USE, RE-PURPOSE, RECYCLE

And who doesn’t need to be reminded sometimes that less can be more, that quality beats quantity, and that new doesn’t necessarily trump old.

It’s a fine mantra for a Vintage Crusader!
