Sunday mornings mean a trip to my local Farmers Market for fresh-squeezed pomegranate juice, organic fruits and vegetables and the best whole-grain bread around. And today’s VPOD is an easy-breezy sundress that is just begging to be invited along for the trip.
Its designer, Tina Leser, made some of the most comfortable and stylish daywear for women, earning Neiman Marcus and Coty Awards for her efforts. And this perky little 1970s sundress certainly shows off her skill. A bustier top in a cotton floral print is trimmed in bold green and blue stripes for a perfect summertime frock. Just add a pair of this season’s popular flats.
It’s a market day find for a vintage fashionista!

Tina Leser liked to use wide-ranging fabric choices: sari silks from India, wools by Pringle, Persian brocades, Siamese robes, Filipino prints. That’s what happens when you take an around-the-world honeymoon, like she did with her second husband in 1949. You end up becoming a master at stirring the world’s great melting-pot of culture and whipping up incredible fashions infused with a distinctive American viewpoint.
Today’s VPOD is a fine example of this blending. This 1950s batik-print, one-shoulder sundress has just the right amount of ethnic island influence. I love the sarong-like draping and the charming strap detail at the shoulder. Its representative of the many “play” pieces Tina Leser designed for women on a budget.
And more than 50 years later, it’s still a beautiful bargain for a vintage fashionista!
