VPOD: Vintage 1960s Emilio Pucci Sunglasses

Surprisingly, the colored lenses that we associate with sunglasses were first used in China in the 1300s and had nothing at all to do with the sun. Nope, these early colored lenses were used by Chinese judges in court so that they could hide their expressions and so that no one could “read their eyes.” It was centuries before tinted lenses were actually used to protect eyes from the glare of the sun.

Of course, today we know that simply wearing colored lenses won’t protect our eyes from those nasty UV rays. They’re everywhere—even on cloudy days. And while UV levels are higher near the equator, at higher elevations, between 10am and 2pm, and around vast stretches of snow and sand, you want to protect your eyes everywhere, all the time. And you want to look good doing it.

So take a peek at today’s VPOD. These two pair of deadstock 1960s sunglasses by Emilio Pucci are oh-so-chic! And if you’re worried that they might not have as much UV protection as modern specs, just take them to a local optometrist who should be able to do a quick and easy test to tell you how much protection they provide and what you can do if you want even more.

They’re smashing summer finds for a vintage fashionista!

Sunglasses are an absolute essential out here in sunny California but they’re just as important anywhere the sun shines. And I don’t mean important from a fashion sense. No, I’m talking about the health benefits of protecting your baby blues (or browns or greens or hazels) from nasty UVA/UVB rays.

Now maybe you like to buy a whole host of inexpensive frames in an array of styles so you always have a pair of shades when and where you need them. Or maybe you’re the type who prefers one fabulous high-quality pair of sunglasses that you treasure and care for.

If you’re the latter, then you’ll love today’s VPOD. These vintage 1970s sunglasses from Christian Dior are blazin’ hot and oh-so-chic.

VPOD: Vintage 1950s Sexy Sunglasses

Usually when a fashionista decides she’s ready to plunge into vintage clothing waters, she takes her first dip with accessories. And since you can’t wear just an accessory, but instead have to mix it up with something already in your wardrobe, you don’t have to worry about getting too gung-ho too soon and risk overdoing it with a vintage-head-to-toe look that is more costume than chic.

Now you could choose a scarf, a belt, or a handbag to take away your vintage virginity, but a sexy pair of shades like today’s VPOD would do nicely too.

These 1950s horn-rimmed beauties in a wonderful bronze shade come with their original leather carry case and a hefty dose of style for no extra charge.

They’re some sexy shades for a vintage fashionista!
