VPOD: Vintage 1930s Draped Cape Pattern

Capes and capelets are shaping up to be a key look this coming fall. Although if you check out your costume history terms, you’ll find that the part flowing over your shoulders is a cape and the whole garment is correctly called a cloak, from the Latin cloka which means…are you ready for this? You guessed it, cape. So it’s that whole crazy tomatoe, to-mah-toe thing.

Today’s VPOD features a pattern for two dreamy, drapey capes from the 1930s. These babies require under 2 yards of fabric so you can splurge on the most luxurious, most decadent, most unique fabric you can find and whip up one or two in a weekend. They’re a perfect project for beginning seamstresses and budding fashion designers. But be prepared, when your friends see yours, they’ll want one of their own.

Because they’re a stylish do-it-yourself find for a vintage fashionista!
