VPOD: Vintage Romantic Ossie Clark Dress

“My dresses are like Bentleys”, said Ossie Clark, “They are quality and last forever.” Unfortunately, the delicate chiffon, satin and crepe that he liked to use on his dresses have not always made it through the decades intact. That’s why it’s thrilling to discover today’s VPOD.

This romantic vintage maxi dress features not one, not two, but three of Ossie’s favorite fabrics: satin on the shoulders, crepe on the bodice, and chiffon for those layers. Plus there are two, count ’em, two, Celia Birtwell prints filled with tattoo hearts, wildflowers and feathers.

It’s a dream come true for a collecting vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Vintage 1970s Ossie Clark LBJ (Little Black Jacket)

With so many magazine articles and fashion self-help books extolling the virtues of the LBD (Little Black Dress), you’re bound to have one or two (or ten) in your closet by now. But what about the LBJ (Little Black Jacket)?

The LBJ is just as versatile a wardrobe staple as the LBD. Just look at today’s VPOD to get inspired.

This 1970s superstar piece by Ossie Clark is done in his signature moss crepe and enhanced with satin trim. The tiny pin tucks at the shoulders, the expert draping of the peplum–it’s simple Ossie perfection.

And while I’m not suggesting you break-up with your LBD, a few dates with your LBJ over denim or a pencil skirt are perfectly permissible.

It’s clearly a beautiful option for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Posh Vintage.

VPOD: Vintage 1970s Ossie Clark Dress

The Ossie Clark label was reincarnated earlier this year by Marc Worth who invested $3.5 million to revive the brand with the Israeli-born designer Avsh Alom Gur at the helm. But I’m a girl who likes to be original–as in original Ossie Clark.

Today’s VPOD features a 1970s vintage Ossie Clark done in his signature moss crepe fabric with flowing tiers of color on the skirt that are matched by draped tiers on the sleeves. And this dress features his own black-and-white (not Radley) label. Ah, the color, the movement, the perfection–something tells me these originals are going to become even more coveted and valuable now that the line has been re-launched.

It’s a beautiful, original find for a vintage fashionista.

Available at Frock NYC.

P.S. Zuburbia will return on Monday, December 29. Happy Holidays everyone!

VPOD: Oh That Ossie!

Ossie Clark was sometimes called the “King of King’s Road” when he designed in London during the swinging 60s. But there are other monikers that would fit as well. How about the “Prince of Plunging Necklines”? Or the “Jester of Jersey”? I can’t say I’ve ever met an Ossie Clark I didn’tlike and today’s VPOD is no exception.

This lovely long-sleeve dress would make a perfect treat to tuck away until Fall. It’s a wonderful shade of blue with a fab little print and an Ossie neckline that, of course, goes all the way down to there!

It’s a feminine find for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Oh, That Ossie!

It’s been said that “Behind every great man is a great woman.” Or, according to Jim Carrey, “Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes.” Either way, you are sure to agree that regardless of who might have been ahead or behind, Celia Birtwell and Ossie Clark created an unbeatable design team.

And their outstanding work is clearly evident in today’s VPOD. This moss crepe halter dress features Ossie’s signature high-waisted skirt and low-waisted bust with Celia’s beloved tulip-and-jagged-rainbow print.

It’s an extraordinary collaboration for a vintage fashionista!
