VPOD: Lovely Lucite

Transparent plastic was brought to market in the 1930s but it wasn’t until the 1950s that its use became popular for handbags. Lucite is actually a trade name for this plastic as is Plexiglas (yes, these purses are basically made of the same material used in aquariums and motorcycle visors).

And I’ll warn you that it’s easy for these gorgeous bags to become an obsession–it’s so hard to buy just one!

Plus they are an easy collectibe item to display in your home. They look stunning grouped on a mantle or dresser top and I’ve even seen them displayed like museum artwork on individual wall shelves.

Today’s VPOD features a beautiful example of why so many people are fascinated with these bags. It features marbelized gunmetal gray and white pearlized striping and has the most interesting “hangles.”

It’s a stunning find for the vintage fashionista!

Available at Bakelite Boutique.
