VPOD: Vintage Charles Jourdan Walking on Sunshine Shoes

If you’re ever in Romans, France, be sure to take a stroll on the rue de Charles Jourdan, a street that pays tribute to the craftsmanship of the famous shoemaker with the same name. This artist was known for working with only the finest materials, and while his 1950s Paris boutique stocked just a handful of styles, each one was available in every possible size, all three widths and a vast array of colors.

Today’s VPOD features a vintage Charles Jourdan peep-toe slingback in bright yellow that will have you literally walking on sunshine.

What a luscious find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Archive Vintage.

VPOD: Vintage 1980s Charles Jourdan Booted Out

If you’re still trying to decide between paper and plastic at the checkout, then the whole leather vs. pleather debate will make your head spin. If you’re on the side of animal activists, then of course fake leather will be your choice. But many environmentalists insist that the dioxin, PVC, used in fake leather, is the most damaging plastic on the planet. And while 95% of U.S. leather is tanned using carcinogenic chemicals which contaminate ground water and produce other nasty waste products, according to Greenpeace, PVC has even more widespread global environmental impact.

So what’s a fashionista to do? Leather or pleather? There appears to be no easy answer so you’ll have to let you conscious be your guide. But one way to compromise is to choose vintage leather, like today’s VPOD.

These 1980s cowboy boots from Charles Jourdan combine smashing pink leather with satin. And since they have “sunk” environmental costs, you’ll know your choice hasn’t contributed to any more negative impacts on the environment this year. (Plus they’re on sale for 20% off!)

They’re a boot-iful find for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Hot Heels

The Charles Jourdan label was founded in France in 1920 and for decades has been able to swing with the fashion times. Although in the case of today’s VPOD, it appears someone was unable to make up their mind.

Is it a heel? Is it a wedge? Before anyone starts getting creative and christening it a “weel” or a “hedge,” let’s just agree that this heel treatment makes for one interesting shoe. Add in the striking electric color, the hint of gold detail, that sexy leather tie strap, unworn condition with the original box AND a 1970s price tag and you’ll be wishing you were a size 7.5.

They’re hot heels for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Posh Vintage.

VPOD: Stepping Up

Women won the right to vote in 1920 with the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, right around the time that Charles Jourdan was founding his label in France. Today’s VPOD features a darling pair of Charles Jourdan pink satin sandals with rhinestones. So pretty and ultra-feminine! Although I wouldn’t advise them as your choice of footwear for standing in line to vote in next year’s election. And you are planning to vote, right? If not, all the women who fought the Suffrage Movement will be rolling in their graves!

I know, I know. Politics can be complicated and confusing. But if you’re still trying to get your head around all of the issues and all of the Presidential candidates, you can cast a simpler kind of vote today…a vote for vintage.

Daily Candy has nominated Kerry Bonnell, former manager of NYC Resurrection and current owner of Archive Vintage (today’s featured site), for their Sweetest Things 2007 award for the most innovative, inspiring, and promising designer or boutique.

All you have to do to vote is go here, and then click to vote for Kerry. Heck, you can even do this barefoot or in your fuzzy slippers.

And it’s a great way to exercise your support for a fellow vintage fashionista!

Available at Archive Vintage.

P.S. All shoes are on sale now!
