Ceil Chapman’s first business partner was Gloria Vanderbilt but the relationship didn’t last long before Ceil Chapman and her first husband began the label, “A Chapman Original.” And this label eventually gave way to the simpler “Ceil Chapman” label, which is found on today’s VPOD.
This stunning 1950s cocktail dress has all the draping, tucking and folding that made Ceil Chapman a favorite of Marilyn Monroe, Deborah Kerr and Elizabeth Taylor and is a prime example of why Ceil Chapman designs are still coveted by vintage fashionistas today.
Beautiful black silk fabric with tiny floral blooms is offset with black velvet trim. And I just love the hourglass shape that is intensified with the placement of the front pockets.
