VPOD: Vintage Strictly Stripes Zebra Boots

By now, you probably know that little wardrobe tip about stripes. You know, how wearing horizontal stripes can make you look wider and wearing vertical stripes can make you look taller. Well, the stripes in today’s VPOD are guaranteed to make you look and feel at least 3 inches taller!

That’s the height of the heels on this rockin’ pair of vintage Italian boots. And while they look like zebra stripes, they’re done in shades of brown and not black which, I think, gives them a classy rather than punk appeal.

And that makes them a striped delight for a vintage fashionista!

Available at Santoki Vintage.

VPOD: Vintage Smokin’ Suede Boots

While a lot of women have visions of tulips and crocuses dancing in their heads, patiently waiting for Spring so they can store their winter coats and break out their sandals and sundresses, true fashionistas have their eyes turned to Fall 2009. Now that Fashion Week has come and gone, it’s time to take stock of all the collections and make sense of the Fall 2009 trends.

And while you can spend hours scouting out all the fabulous runway shots on the web, fashion editors and bloggers will be happy to do the work for you with their forthcoming roundups of Fall 2009 trends. Of course, no two lists will be the same and when you try to consolidate them you could end up with a trend list that is…well, far too long to process.

That’s why I subscribe to one and only one Trend Report: my own sense of what I like and what I know works for me. When you choose clothes with confidence about your own body shape and your own aesthetic and then (and this is important!) wear those clothes with confidence, it really doesn’t matter if you are wearing the hottest trend.

We’ve all been in a room where a woman steals the show with her look and yet isn’t wearing any of the latest styles. And that my friends, is what defines style for me.

So for today’s VPOD I’ve selected a pair of smokin’ suede boots that caught my eye. I just love the color block effect and the sleek thunderbolt design. Of course, the heel and the toe may not be the latest and greatest for Fall 2009, but they’d still have me walking on air with a black skirt and a long cardigan.

They’re one pair of beautiful vintage boots for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Vintage 1980s Charles Jourdan Booted Out

If you’re still trying to decide between paper and plastic at the checkout, then the whole leather vs. pleather debate will make your head spin. If you’re on the side of animal activists, then of course fake leather will be your choice. But many environmentalists insist that the dioxin, PVC, used in fake leather, is the most damaging plastic on the planet. And while 95% of U.S. leather is tanned using carcinogenic chemicals which contaminate ground water and produce other nasty waste products, according to Greenpeace, PVC has even more widespread global environmental impact.

So what’s a fashionista to do? Leather or pleather? There appears to be no easy answer so you’ll have to let you conscious be your guide. But one way to compromise is to choose vintage leather, like today’s VPOD.

These 1980s cowboy boots from Charles Jourdan combine smashing pink leather with satin. And since they have “sunk” environmental costs, you’ll know your choice hasn’t contributed to any more negative impacts on the environment this year. (Plus they’re on sale for 20% off!)

They’re a boot-iful find for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Booted Out

When does Fall begin? While the official answer is September 22, for many women it isn’t heralded by the calendar or crisp mornings or falling leaves but rather by the huge event happening at Bryant Park in NYC this week. It’s Mercedes-Benz Spring Fashion Week and while the fashions we’ll be wearing in six months strut down the runways, the spectators will be premiering their fall wardrobes.

So feel free to kick off your sandals, break out your boots and join the fun. For inspiration, today’s VPOD features some perfect footwear for this seasonal transition period. These 1980s ankle boots of beige lizard skin with snakeskin accents are tres chic.

And they’re a sizzzling find for a vintage fashionista!

VPOD: Booted Out

No, it’s not time to pack away the sandals yet, but it is okay to start thinking about your fall footwear. And since vintage shoes and boots in great condition are a whole lot more difficult to find than say, summer sundresses, it’s a good idea to keep your eyes out year round and then pounce when the style and size is just right for you.

And perhaps you’re the lucky gal that would fit into today’s VPOD. These Xavier Danaud brown ankle boots would be a great way to step into fall.

They’re a hip and stylish find for a vintage fashionista!
