Last week a group of plant geneticists and atmospheric scientists announced that genes used by plants can absorb dangerous air pollutants like VOCs (volatile organic compounds) at much higher rates than ever expected.
By traveling to remote rain forests to analyze air samples, they learned that deciduous plants take up 1/3 more of harmful VOCs than previously thought and the scientists are hopeful that understanding these trees’ genes will lead to new ways to help clean the air in cities.
I know that’s a whole of science for a Monday morning but I think it’s easy to let green thoughts slip waaaay down to the bottom of our priority lists instead of keeping them front and center. That’s why I partnered with Trees for the Future to plant ten trees with every Zuburbia purchase and it’s probably why I am increasingly drawn to green colors for my wardrobe.
Take today’s VPOD for instance. This vintage 1960s Pucci silk skirt’s stunning embossed pattern reminds me of leaves and keeps me mindful that my existence on this planet is dependent on the trees they grow on. As Environment Canada reports, two mature trees can provide enough oxygen for a family of four!
So this is a mindful and beautiful find for a vintage fashionista!
