Enid Collins collectors are clapping their hands in glee because a collection of 49 Enid Collins handbags are currently being auctioned on eBay!
Collins of Texas began making these whimsical, kitschy bags in 1959 in two varieties: the box bags shown here and canvas bucket bags decorated with paint, sequins and rhinestones in themed designs.
But I want to encourage everyone to “think outside the Enid Collins box.”
The wooden handbags need not be carried as purses. They also look quite charming when displayed on a desk, cupboard or vanity and are the perfect size to hold hair accessories, pencils, coupons, and more.
That makes them very versatile finds for vintage fashionistas!

We had a very eccentric neighbor who had a bunch of these back in the sixties (?). I didn’t get it then, and, yup, I still don’t get it. To me they look like the graphics on seventies-era youth-oriented Church materials. (But, um, let’s not discuss my somewhat odd love of old suitcases…to each her own!)
