George Bernard Shaw once referred to Coco Chanel as one of the two most important women in the world (the other being Marie Curie). And I have to wonder what this important fashion icon would have to say about today’s VPOD.
This vintage 1980s brightly patterned romper by Chanel is about as far from Coco’s early suits and little black dresses as you can get. And yet, I have to believe that the woman who was so concerned about ease of movement in her clothes that she would have her mannequins (what they called models back then) swing their arms and legs for hours to see her designs in motion would be quite pleased.
And since Caroline Rennolds Milbank reports in her book, Couture: The Great Designers, that Coco Chanel once crushed flower petals in her hand to show her weaver the exact shade she wanted, I would think she’d be pleased with the bright ruby, emerald and turquoise hues in this playsuit, too.
Although I have to wonder if the prominent Chanel logo would raise her eyebrow. What do you think?
Either way, this is an unexpected and totally current Chanel find for a vintage fashionista!
