I attended the screening of Salt last night at LACMA, which was actually the movie’s “real” premiere since the showing at Grauman’s Chinese Theater started an hour later. And while action films aren’t my favorite genre, I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this hour-and-a-half of non-stop action.

During the Q&A with the film’s director, Phillip Noyce, we learned that this film about a sleeper Russian agent was originally shopped to Tom Cruise before it turned into a vehicle for Angelina Jolie. And like Tom Cruise, Angelina insisted on doing almost all of her own stunts. So yes, that’s actually her jumping, leaping, tumbling, crashing, slugging and kicking.

Of course, this athletic beauty also manages to look like a lady at times. In one scene, costume designer Sarah Edwards clothes her in a fur-trimmed cape and fur hat that evokes the look of a quintessential Russian spy. And while Evelyn Salt, Angelina Jolie’s character, sports what appears to be chinchilla, you can grab a similar dramatic look on a non-spy salary with today’s VPOD.

This vintage 1970s sheepskin fur hat supplies the style but you’ll have to add the adventure on your own.

It’s a Cold War-inspired find for a vintage fashionista.
