It shouldn’t be hard to believe that caftans started off as garments for men. After all, they’re super-comfy and men tend to value comfort over fashion. You don’t see men teetering along on four-inch heels or squeezing themselves into vise-like undergarments. And while the identity of the first female to appropriate a caftan for herself is unknown, women everywhere should cheer for her courage to step outside the fashion box.
Now commonly chosen as beach cover-ups or attire for pool parties, you shouldn’t overlook the power of a caftan for an elegant evening, too. Just look at today’s VPOD.
This vintage 1960s caftan features lurex-embroidered peacocks and yes, that’s a whole lot of buttons down the front–91 to be exact!
It’s an easy-breezy caftan find for a vintage fashionista!
Available at Chi Chi and the Greek.

The comfornt is one that is pleasure. I just brought myself one and could not decide on to sell it on my online vintage boutique or to keep it for myself. Well I kept it for myself!!
Now that I spend some 12-14 hours a day sitting in a chair in front of a computer…instead of getting any kind of exercise….I'm going to be needed a wardrobe of caftans!
Besides, I'm almost old and crazy enough to do the whole "Auntie Mame" thing with caftans, turbans, big clunky jewelry, a long cigarette holder and a martini!
