VPOD: Vintage 1960s Suede Swagger Coat

Suede is one of those fabrics that requires a little extra TLC and perhaps that’s why pristine vintage versions are so very hard to find. But caring for suede isn’t a huge effort, just keep these tips in mind:

—Always protect your suede items from products like perfumes, hairspray, and body/hand lotions. That means never spritzing perfume or hairspray when you’re wearing suede and always wearing a scarf to protect the collar from makeup stains.
—Never store suede in plastic bags since it needs to breathe. Use a cloth garment bag or old pillowcases instead.
—Invest in a good suede brush to remove any surface dirt and raise the nap to keep suede looking fresh over time.
—Avoid wearing suede in rain or snow. If suede does become wet, blot with a thick towel and let it air dry away from direct heat sources. (No hair dryers or heaters allowed.)

Someone definitely followed these tips in caring for today’s VPOD. This 1960s suede coat by Misty Harbor is dressed up with toggle hardware and black piping.

It’s full of suede swagger for a vintage fashionista!
