VPOD: In the Trenches

Yes, the trench coat was worn by officers in the trenches during World War II and hence the name. But it has a much longer history than that. And while it seems all the major fashion designers have offered their take on this iconic wardrobe staple at one time or another, the original was developed by Thomas Burberry in the 1890s.

Today’s VPOD features an updated version of the trench that hails from the 1970s. This chic little number by Molyneux dresses up ho-hum tan, beige and taupe with a polished sheen. But it doesn’t stop there. Add in some deep front pockets, grommet details on the cuffs, a wide back vent…why you’ll be wishing for April showers to hurry up and arrive! But you needn’t wait that long. Trench coats are a perfect transitional piece for this time of year.

And they’re a Spring must-have for a vintage fashionista!
