VPOD: Gucci Gal

Warning: There are plenty of counterfeit designer handbags out there! Usually created in the most popular styles, some of them can be really great copies–hardly distinguishable from the real thing at first glance and sometimes even at a second or third glance. But you’ll never find me carrying one!

No, I’m not a snob. There are lots of legitimate reasons not to succumb to the temptation of a fake Fendi on your arm. Here are my top three:

1. The sale of counterfeits has been linked to terrorism and organized crime.
2. The holders of copyrights, trademarks and patents should receive the profits owed to them for their work rather than criminals.
3. Counterfeits cost Americans jobs. (And often their work is replaced by sweatshop or even forced child labor.)

So as a consumer how do you protect yourself?

First and foremost, buy from reputable sellers!

Today’s VPOD features a fabulous 1970s Gucci satchel that was recreated by Tom Ford as part of his “custom line” of vintage Gucci handbags. This legal reproduction originally cost $12,000 but you can own this authentic Gucci for a mere fraction of that.

It’s a legitimate find for a vintage fashionista!

Available at La Pochette.

P.S. (Checkout the forums at Know Knockoffs for lists of counterfeit eBay sellers and sites to avoid.)
